What is the capacity of the venue?

Capacity for up to 150 guests for your wedding. Capacity depends greatly on the layout of the barn, and can easily be arranged to suit a much smaller wedding. We can discuss this further on a viewing when you can see the space. The Shippon ceremony room seats around 110, so for larger weddings a ceremony in the Main Barn is always an option.

Is the venue licenced for weddings?

The Shippon, Main Barn and Main House are licenced for your civil ceremony. You must book a registrar directly with Cumbria County Council, we recommend checking registrar availability before confirming your wedding date with us.

Can we have an outdoor ceremony?

Yes this is an option and the lawn provides a lovely space for an outdoor ceremony. If you would like a legal outdoor ceremony you would need to book an extended slot with the registrars, and you would have to move in to the licensed building (in the house or barn) for the signing of the register. The alternative would be to have a celebrant who may be more flexible for an outdoor ceremony; this would not be a legal marriage but the legalities could be performed before or after your wedding day.

Is the venue dog friendly?

Of course! We would love to see your four legged friends being a part of your day. Dogs are welcome in the main house accommodation and in the wedding venue. The farm is a fully working cattle and sheep farm so we ask that they are kept under control at all times and do not disturb any animals grazing in nearby fields. There is an extra charge of £30 per dog if they are staying in the accommodation.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes, all areas are accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility and there are accessible toilets on both levels; in the Bar area and also downstairs, accessed from the Lower Courtyard. There are steps from the Lower Courtyard in to the main barn, however these can be avoided by using an external ramp. If this ramp is to steep there are also additional disabled car parking spaces on the upper level so a car can be moved round once guests move to the main barn.

Unfortunately the accommodation does not have any ground floor bedrooms.

Corkage fees?

Yes there is a fully stocked and licensed pay bar on site that we will manage and run for your guests. We can open the bar whenever you want and will provide all the glassware for your welcome drinks and on the tables. If there are any specific drinks you want us to stock we will do our best to accommodate this. If you want specialist drinks like a cocktail bar, then this is something we can arrange with a third party.

Is there parking on site?

Yes, there is ample space for your guests to park, right next to the venue.

Are you onsite to ensure everything goes to plan on the day?

Yes, Clare and Nick live on-site, so will be there on the day to ensure your day goes smoothly! One of them will be there as coordinator on the day and will be available to meet suppliers and ensure caterers, florists, cake deliveries all run smoothly whilst you focus on getting ready. We will meet with you in advance of the wedding to discuss the finer details and ensure we know exactly what needs to be happening when. You are welcome to arrange additional wedding planner/coordination and we will still be around to provide venue coordination.

Can we have a marquee or tipi at the venue?

Yes if you would like a marquee or tipi this is something that you can arrange, you would be responsible for arranging your own marquee/tipi at an extra cost. You could still use the barns for your ceremony. The lawn is a perfect level space for a marquee/tipi or there are also options in the field.

Can guests camp on site?

We welcome your guests to camp on the lawn of the main house or in the adjacent fields. Your guests would have access to the toilets in the main barn, where there is also a shower. We would ask that guests camping do not come in to the main house to use the facilities.

Is food included in the wedding package or are there kitchen facilities on site?

We do not provide any food, you must source your own wedding caterer for all food required. There is a room adjoining the main barn that is dedicated to your caterers, this provides water and electric and preparation surfaces. Outside caterers will be able to use their own equipment to prepare your wedding breakfast and evening food in this area. There is an access door straight in to the barn and there is external parking available for catering vans/trailers.
